Just A Small Update

Just A Small Update

I’m back! Did you miss me? I’ve been MIA for a while but this time it wasn’t my fault. I swear! Back in March I suffered a detached retina in my right eye. This is not my first rodeo with that particular condition, as several years ago the same thing happened in my left eye. This time the tear in the retina wasn’t quite as bad as the last time so the doctor wanted to try an in office procedure to repair it so we could avoid a full on surgery. I’ll spare you most of the details but it did involve four (yes I counted) needles stuck in my eye. While the needles weren’t pleasant the toughest part of this whole thing was the recovery period. I had to spend most of the time looking straight down at the floor and could not use a phone or computer. After four weeks of this everything was coming along fine. I was ready to get on my work computer and get back to earning a paycheck. After one whole day of getting caught up I hit the sack. When I woke up in the morning I was blind in half my right eye!

It was an emergency trip back to the doctor to find out I had six new tears in my retina and this time it was full on surgery and a repeat recovery for an additional four weeks! Yesterday, I just got released from most of my restrictions, including looking anywhere I damn please! However, after staring at the floor for the better part of two months, I’m like a newborn that can’t quite hold its head up yet. I keep unconsciously letting it drift back down.

So that’s where I’ve been. I’ve decided to try and throttle back on the medical posts and get back to some story telling. Look for one soon. It’s a humorous one involving old school cameras. Gotcha wondering? I hope so.

  1. Welcome back! Sounds horrible! What produces a torn retina? And how, after following all orders, did it re-tear in a multitude of places? I like to watch ‘medical’ t.v. shows, but whenever they start to go toward someone’s eye, I shut mine until the scene is over. I’m dreading ever getting cataracts!

    1. Thank you Barbara! Trauma can cause a torn retina but in my case it’s because of my extreme nearsightedness. The stress of the misshaped eyeball can cause stress on the retina that can tear later in life. I know what you mean. I’ve had to endure some very unpleasant “probing” in my eyes.

  2. Well, if I wasn’t looking at your post through my fingers before, then you go and use the word probing. Ick.
Glad you are back and yes, we missed you. Looking forward to some overexposure soon 🙂

    1. Ha! You remind me of that Friends episode where they had to tackle Rachel to put drops in her eye. If you didn’t like that, I probably shouldn’t tell you about this gas bubble floating around in my eye.

I see you changed your blog name. I’ll get over there soon and see what’s going on with you.

  3. So far none of your hiatuses (hiati? hiati hernia?) have been your fault. You’ve been hit with several unfortunate medical maladies, but you have been missed and I’m glad you’re back to share your experiences, unpleasant as they may be.
And I’m glad things are going better and I’m intrigued by the possibilities of old school cameras.

    1. Thanks Chris! Hopefully no more hiati (my pick of your choices). I’ll be posting the camera story soon. I think you’ll get a kick out of it.

    1. Thank you. However, I think I’d rather leave this drama to a llama. Not that I’d want a llama to have eye problems either. Well, you know what I mean. Hope all is well with you.
