I Left The Hospital With Three More Holes Than I Went In With

Figured I would keep y’all up to date on my health saga. As I mentioned in my last health post, they discovered two new malignant tumors in my liver. We were hoping that wouldn’t be an issue as my priority on the transplant list went up pretty high and a new liver would have taken care of the problem. As it turns out, I haven’t scratched the winning lottery ticket on the list yet so in order to keep the tumors from growing so I can stay on the list, they had to take care of them.

This consisted of a two day procedure. Day one they put a probe in my groin. Yup, the good ole groin again. That makes four punctures there over the last four years and no I wasn’t asleep. They did a pretty good local block on it though and I didn’t feel a thing. The probe was to inject some marking dye and embolize blood vessels leading to the tumors. After that was done I was able to enjoy an all night expenses paid (by healthcare for once) stay in the hospital.

Day two they knocked my ass out! They had to since they poked two holes in me and jammed a microwave probe in there to nuke those tumors. After cooking on high for about 30 minutes they were done. I woke up, or tried to, in recovery. I’ve never had a problem waking up from general anesthetic before but as soon as I would wake up and say a few words, I would fall back asleep. They weren’t that concerned however, since they had used a very strong dose for the procedure. I eventually got all the way back into the land of consciousness and spent six hours in my hospital room before they released me.

I’m back in the rig now and had to do bed rest yesterday but I am up on and on the move (slowly) today. I’ll have an MRI in the next few weeks to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment and hopefully a liver offer soon. They keep saying that, “offer”, like I would turn it down!

P.S. October 23rd was my four year sober date. Don’t congratulate me, it sucks! 🙂

  1. Well, if it couldn’t be the final surgery, I’m glad at least that they took care of the 2 tumors standing in the way of it. (Are you actually driving?!?!?). Do you have to wait on a full liver now? I thought there was a chance of a partial one being enough.
Well, I’m not uncrossing any fingers or toes for you, so time might just be on your side (thank you to the Rolling Stones).

  2. I tried to get a partial living liver transplant when I got here almost a year ago but due to compatibility and insurance issues it didn’t work out. So, yes, I am waiting on a full liver transplant. Thanks for keeping those fingers crossed!

    1. My spam filter breaking down again. Just an FYI to you spammers, targeting people with liver disease for your sex based schemes isn’t a good business model. As anyone with the disease could tell you, it destroys your sex life.

  6. I wanted a part of someone else’s liver to help me almost a year ago, but it didn’t happen because our bodies didn’t match and there were problems with insurance. Now, I’m waiting for a whole new liver instead. porthleven cornwall

    1. Good luck! I know how frustrating it can be to wait. I almost didn’t make it, but I held out hope and it paid off! It can happen to you too!
